WOLFGANG MIEDER

INTERNATIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHY OF NEW AND REPRINTED PROVERB COLLECTIONS, 1992*

During this past year fifty-six new and reprinted proverb collections from around the world have come to my attention. As usual, some of them are of great scholarly significance, while others (especially those of hundred pages or less) are intended for the popular market. It must not be forgotten, however, that such popular collections do their part in keeping the interest in proverbs alive among general readers. In any case, it is my feeling that this annual bibliography should include all paremiographical publications no matter what their specific value or audience might be.

Once again I received invaluable assistance from many friends and colleagues, notably Franz Eppert (Fredericton, New Brunswick), Sergei D. Mastepanov (Malokurgannyi), Gyula Paczolay (Veszprém), Anna Tothné Litovkina (Szekszard), Helmut Walther (Wiesbaden), and Fionnuala Williams (Belfast). Please continue supplying me with the titles of the newest paremiographical publications, making sure that you include precise bibliographical information. Even better, please send the actual book for which I will gladly reimburse you. I definitely rely on your help to make this bibliography as comprehensive as possible on the international level. Slowly but surely I am building an extensive paremiographical archive which will serve scholars from everywhere for years to come.
