INTERNATIONAL PROVERB SCHOLARSHIP:
AN UPDATED BIBLIOGRAPHY
The 462 entries presented in this
annual bibliography represent the largest number of
references ever included in my yearly compilations at the
end of Proverbium. They reflect a truly amazing
breadth and depth of international proverb scholarship. It
is no easy task to assemble so many publications, and I want
to express my thanks to Peter Grzybek (Graz), Gyula Paczolay
(Veszprém), Helmut Walther (Wiesbaden), and Fionnuala
Williams (Belfast), who have been of much help to
me.
This year saw the publication of
several essay volumes dedicated to the combined study of
paremiology and phraseology. They contain many individual
articles by scholars from around the world, and this is, of
course, the major reason for the large number of entries in
this bibliography. The editors of these volumes have
provided a great service to our profession, and we owe them
much thanks for their efforts. The following essay volumes
certainly belong to the major research tools for the study
of paremiology and phraseology: Gertrud Gréciano and
Annely Rothkegel (eds.), Phraseme in Kontext und
Kontrast (Bochum: Norbert Brockmeyer, 1997); Annette
Sabban (ed.), Phraseme im Text: Beiträge aus
romanistischer Sicht (Bochum: Norbert Brockmeyer, 1997);
Willem Saayman (ed.), Embracing the Baobab Tree: The
African Proverb in the 21st Century (Pretoria:
University of South Africa, 1997); Peter Durco (ed.), EUROPHRAS 97: Phraseology and Paremiology (Bratislava: Akadémia PZ, 1998); Wolfgang Eismann
(ed.), EUROPHRAS 95: Europäische Phraseologie im
Vergleich: Gemeinsames Erbe und kulturelle Vielfalt (Bochum: Norbert Brockmeyer, 1998); Dietrich Hartmann (ed.), "Das geht auf keine Kuhhaut": Arbeitsfelder der
Phraseologie. Akten des Westfälischen Arbeitskreises
Phraseologie/Parömiologie 1996 (Bochum: Norbert
Brockmeyer, 1998); and Jan Wirrer (ed.), Phraseologismen
in Text und Kontext. Phrasemata I (Bielefeld: Aisthesis
Verlag, 1998). All of the essays contained in these books
have been listed individually in this
bibliography.
Please continue to inform me of your
new publications. If at all possible, please mail actual
copies so that I can add them to my international proverb
archive. Obviously I am willing to pay for your newly
published books. Also, feel free to send me 300 flyers for
new book publications which I can then include in my yearly
mailing of Proverbium at no charge to you or your
publisher. This will give international scholars the
opportunity to find out about your significant contributions
to proverb scholarship.
